During a time that we lived in St. Louis when my first born was an infant, we had family bible study with my father, siblings, and extended family. We met once a month, had dinner and study the Word. My father posed the question to us about homeschooling. He thought it was something we should consider. This idea was far from my mind. Are you kidding? Me….. homeschool? Not!!! I was prepared to stay home with my children till they went to kindergarten then I was off to pursue my own career endeavors.
Well fast forward 12 years. There is nothing I want more than to homeschool my children. I met lots of people who homeschool and met lots of young adults who were homeschooled. I liked what I saw. After researching and finding a wonderful homeschool program called Circle Christian in Central Florida, my husband and I went to a meeting to get more information. I found myself in tears because I wanted this sooo bad. It would be another year before I was able to start homeschooling. We took our oldest daughter out of public school and began our journey. Although we didn’t use the Circle Christian program, we enjoyed our first year, so much that we decided to homeschool both daughters the next year. We purchase our curriculum from Alpha Omega Publications.
We discovered that homeschooling was the best decision we could have ever made! The education experience is rich and we get to spend a lot of time together. An added bonus, I get to impart my values onto my girls and they use curriculum designed from a Christian Worldview! Because the “class size” is so small, a typical school day is shorter, leaving them more time to pursue their own dreams. We have been at this homschooling for 4 years now and I am so thrilled at the span of knowledge my girls have. There are so many advantages to homeschooling that it is too many to name. As i see so much decline in public school and growing ever thankful that we have already settled into educating our children independently.
Is this an option you have considered? Do you have questions about it? Feel free to ask me about our experience. I will be happy to share. If you have some thoughts about homeschooling please share with me.
